SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 now supports Merge Replication with SQL Server 2012

A major update to SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 has just been released, version 3.5.8088.0, disguised as a “Cumulative Update Package”. Microsoft knowledgebase article 2628887 describes the update.

The update contains updated Server Tools, and updated desktop and device runtimes, all updated to support Merge Replication with the next version of SQL Server, SQL Server 2012.

For a complete list of Cumulative Updates released for SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2, see my blog post here.

It is nice to see that the 3.5 SP2 product, with it’s full range of device support and synchronization technologies is kept alive and kicking.

NOTE: I blogged about this update earlier, but it was pulled back. Now it is finally available, and all downloads can be requested. (I have downloaded all the ENU ones, anyway)

Erik - FYI, there is now a CU7 for replicating from SQL CE 3.5SP2 to SQL Server 2012. The only problem I am noticing is that while the KB article indicates there is support for 32-bit IIS servers, the actual hotfix/CU does not include such an installer. The CU7 patch is at:

Thanks, Darren, but the hotfix for SQL 2012 is CU 6, and I just blogged about CU 7 here: http://erikej.blogspot.dk/2012/10/sql-server-compact-35-sp2-downloadable.html - and both the x86 and x64 Server tools hotfixes are available, but only the one that matches your OS is displayed initially - but you can clikc a link to see both...

Erik,

Can you please point me in the right direction for replication from SQL Server 2012 to SQL CE 3.5 SP2? I installed CU7, server tools that are mentioned in the article . Set up the agent and the publisher fine. But Subscriber would not connect to the agent. Please advise.

Thanks in advance,
Neeru

Neeru: First step is to do proper error logging, then Consult SQL Server Compact Books online for troubleshooting steps, the raise a question in the MSDN forum
